Cultural Conversations Dublin: Justin Strauss & Kelly-Ann Byrne
Cultural Conversations also touches down in Dublin - and this time Justin Strauss sits in conversation with Kelly-Anne Byrne, in the unique surrounds of Hen's Teeth Dublin.
Proudly supported by Hennessy.
Doors 5pm - 7pm | Free Entry
Hear tales of NYC's lost dancefloors and key cultural moments from one of the city's most iconic DJs. Across four decades Justin has built a remix catalogue spanning hundreds of records - from Tina Turner and Beyoncé to Franz Ferdinand, while continuing to tour the world's most respected underground clubs and hold down residencies back home at The Lot Radio and Gabriela.
Kelly-Anne Byrne is a DJ heavily influenced by the music and clubs that emerged from New York's legendary 70's / 80's art and music scene, where Basquiat crossed paths with K-Rob and Rammellzee, and Blondie joined forces with art fanatic Fab 5 Freddie. It's a period of collision and fusion: rap, new wave, punk, leftfield disco and street art, leading us into the early acid house and rave scene of the late 80's and shaping the way we listen to and experience music to this day.
Justin plays Hang Dai after alongside Arveene and Billy Scurry.

Solax Film Club presents: NEW WAVE
Solax Film Club presents: New Wave (Onda Nova) at Hen's Teeth
Doors open at 18:30h. Film at 19h.
There will be an intro to the films and a relaxed post-film discussion.
NEW WAVE (ONDA NOVA)
Dir. Ícaro (Francisco C.) Martins & José Antonio Garcia. Brasil. 1983/2024. 94min. Women’s football was banned in Brazil until 1979, and women were only able to form teams in 1983, the year ONDA NOVA was produced. Banned by the Brazilian dictatorship before its release and recently restored in 4K, the film brings together stories about the young players of the newly formed Gayvotas Football Club. With the support of players from the 80’s who were well-known for their political stances as well as their football, this erotic and anarchic comedy features cameos from Casagrande and others involved in the Brazilian struggle for democracy. Facing the many prejudices of a conservative society while navigating personal, romantic, and family dynamics, the team prepares for a symbolic international match.
Disclosure: Solax is a non-profit initiative led by female immigrants in Ireland: Ingrid, Milo, Sofí, Ira y Perrine. We run it with lots of love and care for this club, with the incredible support of everyone in the film club. If you're in a position to donate and would like to, please do! This will go towards making tickets even more accessible, buying our own gear, and maybe one day being able to financially support our efforts. Anything counts, even the price of an oat latte in Temple Bar (luxury!). Thank you so much for all the help!
